How does CoolSculpting™ by Zeltiq work?

 

The CoolSculpting™ procedure developed by ZELTIQ is based on sound science called Cryolipolysis™. Cryolipolysis™ is the result of a discovery by Drs. Dieter Manstein and R. Rox Anderson of Massachusetts General Hospital (Harvard).

Their initial work proved that subcutaneous fat cells are naturally more vulnerable to the effects of cold than other surrounding tissue. These studies confirmed that fat cells, when exposed to precisely controlled cooling for a sustained period of time, undergo a gradual reduction and cell death through a process called apoptosis. Fat is taken away by this inflammatory process called apoptosis, absorbed through the lymphatic system and finally excreted from the body. The fat then disappears within 2 to 4 months following the treatment.

What happens during the CoolSculpting™ procedure?

 

During the CoolSculpting™  procedure, a non-invasive applicator delivers precisely controlled cooling to the treatment area leaving surface skin tissue unaffected.The device draws the fat bulge up between two cooling panels. The sensation is a firm tug and pull.

What do CoolSculpting™ by ZELTIQ treatments feel like?  

As the panels go to work in the first few minutes, you will feel a sensation of intense cold. This soon dissipates. The patient sits comfortably or lies down during the 1 to 2 hour procedure. Many people spend this time reading, working on their laptop, or simply relaxing.
