What is Smoothbeam Laser and how does it work?

Smoothbeam laser is the first FDA-approved laser treatment for acne and acne scarring. Smoothbeam is a diode laser which uses heat energy to alter the structure of the sebaceous gland – the root cause of acne. It reduces the level of oil production and helps heal acne cysts and bumps. The process also stimulates new collagen underneath the skin and minimizes wrinkles by stimulating the production and deposition of newly organized collagen beneath the skin. Smoothbeam safely treats acne and acne scars in a non-invasive way. It targets water, collagen and oil glands in the upper dermis while protecting the epidermis (the outer layer of skin).

It is important for you to have realistic expectations and be aware that it will take time to clear your skin. Once the skin is clear, maintenance treatments once every 3-6 months are advised to maintain the results.

How long does each treatment session last?

Each treatment session is about 45-60 minutes. This includes microdermabrasion followed by gentle extractions, 10-15 minutes of Smoothbeam laser, followed by a Gentlewaves®LED treatment immediately after to improve the skin’s healing process.

How long do the results last after I have completed a series of treatments?

Active acne may not reappear for as long as months to 1 year although individual results vary. Generally breakouts are much less severe than the original lesions. Follow up treatments every 3-6 months helps to keep your skin as clear as possible.

How do I prepare my skin for Smoothbeam treatments?

Avoid sun exposure for at least two weeks before the treatment. Avoid the use of Retin A or other irritating skin products for 3 days prior to the treatment.
