What is Sculptra?
Sculptra is an injectable filler containing poly-L-lactic acid (from the alphahydroxy acid family). Sculptra is FDA approved for cosmetic use and for individuals with facial hollowing. Sculptra works by stimulating the build up of the body’s own collagen to smooth out lines and wrinkles. It is best used for adding volume to:
- hollow or flattened cheeks
- nasolabial and marionette folds
- defining the jawline
- depressed chin
- hollow temples
The overall effect is a youthful appearance with gradual, natural-looking results.
How is Sculptra different from other fillers?
Sculptra stimulates collagen production and dermal thickness thereby smoothening out lines and wrinkles whilst restoring lost facial volume. This ability to treat the volume and fat loss due to ageing makes it a useful anti-aging tool.
Who is suitable for Sculptra treatments?
Anyone with facial depressions requiring correction.
Individuals with bleeding disorders or who are on blood thinning drugs may have to avoid this treatment.
Are there any side effects?
Some immediate side effects may include bruising, skin redness and swelling which disappear within 2 to 6 days.
Medium to long term side effects include small lumps. These tend to resolve spontaneously or with anti-inflammatory injections. They tend not to occur if proper dilution and injection techniques are observed.
Is Sculptra safe?
Sculptra has been used in Europe since 1999. Since 2002 when the product was reformulated, it has had an excellent safety profile when treatments are done correctly.
Who should not have Sculptra treatments?
Ladies who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
What can I expect after a Sculptra treatment?
Most patients are able to resume normal activities within 24-48 hours. The immediate volume effect is related to the volume of water injected and this disappears within 72 hours. There is a natural increase in dermal skin thickness which begins to take place over the first 4 weeks after injection. This continues to increase over the next 6 months and persists for up to 2 years
Is it painful and how many treatments do I need to get desired results?
There is a small amount of tolerable discomfort, most patients feedback that the experience is better than expected. The effects are natural, gradual and long lasting compared to temporary fillers. The number of treatments required depends on the amount of facial volume requiring augmentation.
How long do results last?<
Sculptra lasts approximately 2 years after a series of treatments. It takes 2-3 months after the last treatment to see the full results, as it works by building your own collagen.
Price:
$1000-$2000 per treatment session. All prices are subjected to 7% GST.
Most require from 2 to 4 treatment sessions at 4 week intervals for optimal results.
