Botox For Excessive Sweating (Hyperhidrosis)

Excessive Sweat Treatment for Hyperhidrosis

What is Hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition where one sweats excessively, in an abnormal manner, in situations unrelated to the temperature or weather. It most commonly affects the underarm (or armpit) area, and may cause much anxiety to the affected person.
Satisfied patients who have been treated with Botox for underarm hyperhidrosis describe the result as life-changing, as their self-confidence greatly increases once the excessive sweating is under control.

How does Botox reduce excessive sweating?

Botox temporarily blocks chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands, thereby reducing sweating in the injected area.
Botox is generally very effective - a 90% reduction in sweating is achieved by most patients, within 1 week after the treatment. The dryness lasts about 6 months or more. Body odor generally improves as a direct result of the reduced sweating, however this is not always the case.
Patients can choose to repeat the treatment every 6 months to maintain the results.

What happens during a Botox treatment for hyperhidrosis?

Anaesthetic cream is first applied over the injected areas. Tiny injections of Botox using a very fine needle are administered in a gentle, systematic manner. The treatment takes about ten minutes. Most patients report feeling a slight sting but discomfort is minimal and brief.

Is Botox a safe treatment for hyperhidrosis?

Side effects are rare. In addition, there is minimal downtime, and normal daily activities can be resumed the day after.

Who is a good candidate for BOTOX treatments?

Anyone with excessive sweating which interferes with their daily activities, and who is not well controlled with other treatment options, is a good candidate for Botox.
