Case #1
A 59-year-old Caucasian lady sees Dr Isabelle Yeoh once a year for a lip-filling treatment.
While she already has naturally well-shaped lips, she is concerned that the area just below
the corners of her mouth has begun to sink inwards.
Dr Yeoh's diagnosis
"With age, women in their 50s start to lose facial fat. The
area around the mouth is often the first part of the face
to reveal this sign of aging. I injected a small amount of
Juvederm filler into the sunken corners to help turn them
up. I also injected another dose into the central upper and
lower lips to plump them up and give a youthful hydrating
effect, which is similar to wearing lip gloss."

Other facts/Benefits
• Instead of the eyes or nose, the lips are actually the central
feature of a perfect face. The lower lip should be ideally 1.6
times bigger than the upper lip, and longer too.
• Many patients report an increased confidence in their
appearance as the main reason for having a lip filler
treatment. Lip fillers restore the plump, youthful look that is
lost with age, and the results are long-lasting.
• IYAC uses either Restylane or Juvederm for the lips. Both are hyaluronic
acid-based fillers that are biodegradable and biocompatible, and they have one of
the best reputations in the market for quality and safety.
• The look Dr Yeoh aims to achieve is natural, without adding too much volume.
Results and feedback
Our patient is delighted with how the results of lip fillers are subtle and yet "make
such a difference". Although she has undergone many other treatments on her face to
combat the signs of aging, she says that lip fillers are the one treatment that is "such
a simple thing to do that really gives the wow factor".

A good night's sleep
It is increasingly common for city dwellers who lead a high-stress lifestyle to
suffer from sleep problems. However, the solution needn't be strong drugs.
Here's introducing natural sleep aids that ensure a good night's rest.
At IYAC, many patients who have trouble getting to sleep or staying asleep, or both, have
discovered better sleep by taking serotonin.
Why Can't I Sleep?
Stress and anxiety are a regular part of a hectic, modern life. This causes our body to release
cortisol, which is the stress hormone that prepares us for the "fight or flight" response. With
constant assault by stressful daily events, it is inevitable that all of the chemicals responsible
for our sense of wellness end up being exhausted, in particular Serotonin.
What is Serotonin?
Serotonin is a "happy
neurotransmitter" that promotes
feelings of well-being, relaxation,
confidence and concentration. The
human body makes Serotonin to
calm our brain and nervous system,
and help us stay in a relaxed mode,
among other useful functions.
When we have enough Serotonin
in our system, we feel good, our
moods are stable and serene,
and we sleep well. One can safely
take Serotonin in the form of its
precursor Tryptophan, with no
side effects, and no tolerance,
dependance or sedation.
Aside from Serotonin, there is also
a range of other sleep supplements
that help to reduce the "excitatory"
chemicals and introduce more calm
into our body and mind. These
generally work well in the absence
of external factors such as crying
babies, deep emotional distress,
and an over-demanding job!
Note: Always consult a
doctor before starting on
Tryptophan, especially if
you have any pre-existing
medical conditions.
If we do not know how to reduce our cortisol levels before bedtime,
we end up with an imbalance in our brain and nervous system. There
will be too much of the "excitatory" chemicals and not enough of the
relaxing ones, which prevents a deep, restful sleep and can also cause
us to wake up in the middle of the night.
Top 10 tips for a good night's sleep
1. Sleeping from 10pm to 6am gives the best sleep for
most individuals – deep and restful.
2. Try not to eat and drink 2 hours before bedtime.
3. Do something relaxing before going to bed, such
as reading a book, taking a hot bath or listening to
soothing music.
4. Avoid watching the news, movies with upsetting
or aggressive themes, or playing computer or video
games, before bedtime.
5. Eat a diet rich in protein and healthy fats (Tryptophan
is found in turkey, chicken and eggs).
6. Avoid caffeine and aspartame (found in Equal, diet and
artificially flavoured drinks and food products).
7. Avoid fast foods, and do not skip meals.
8. Take regular vitamins (calcium, magnesium, Vitamin
D, and Vitamin Bs assist in the conversion of
Tryptophan to 5-HTP to Serotonin).
9. Exercise regularly as it enhances mood and energy
levels.
10. Integrate stress management techniques into your
daily routine with activities like yoga, meditation,
breathing exercises and swimming.
