Dermal Fillers Singapore

Youthful Injectables

Fillers are commonly used to treat lines and wrinkles, volume loss and help regain a firm and youthful appearance by restoring skin volume.

IYAC offers a wide range of fillers from the popular hyaluronic acid-based and collagen-based injections, to longer-lasting injectables that stimulate collagen deeper in the skin. Although all fillers work toward the same goal of smoothing lines and adding back lost volume, some offer immediate results that are temporary while others have delayed yet long-term results.

As our skin ages, the dermis gradually loses its major constituents causing sagging and loss of volume:

  • Collagen - Collagen acts as a major support protein for our skin
  • Elastin - Elastin allows our skin to stay firm and resist wrinkles
  • Hyaluronic acid - Hyaluronic acid helps to trap water and add volume and shape to our skin.

Collagen is an abundant natural protein found in the body that provides structural support to skin, muscle, tendons and bone. In the skin, fibers of collagen are woven together to provide texture, resilency and shape. Collagen is one of the substances lost during the normal aging process.

What are the suitable areas for treatments?

Here are some of the commonly-treated areas:

  • lines from the nose to the mouth (nasolabial folds)
  • lines from the mouth to the chin (marionette lines)
  • lines above the upper lip (lipstick or smokers lines)
  • frown lines (best combined with Botox)
  • forehead lines
  • in the lips for volume and enhancement
  • in the nose for enhancement
  • to restore volume to cheekbones or cheeks
  • to under-eye hollows to give a less tired appearance
  • to smoothen and soften neck lines
  • to smoothen and soften the décolletage/chest area
  • to fill out the backs of the hands to make skin look softer and smoother

What are the benefits of fillers?

Fillers often give immediate results and instant gratification, without surgery and lengthy healing times. Results are safe, consistent and reproducible and most people are able to resume their usual activities on the same day or by the next day.

What are Restylane and Juvederm?

Restylane and Juvederm are fillers made of hyaluronic acid that are of non-animal origin, made in a laboratory and have the best safety profile of all the fillers currently on the market. They are often the fillers of choice for nasolabial folds, hollows under the eyes, cheek, chin and lip enhancements.

What is Restylane Skinboosters?

Restylane Skinboosters, comprising Restylane Vital products, aims to hydrate and rejuvenate in contrast to the conventional filling of wrinkles. Restylane Skinboosters is used to restore hydrobalance and elasticity in the skin and can be used on the face, hands, neck and décolletage. It is ideal for those seeking subtle results with hydration benefits.

What is Radiesse?

Radiesse is made of calcium hydroxylapatite, a constituent found in our bones and teeth. It lasts slightly longer than hyaluronic-acid fillers due to its denser quality and is often used for the nasolabial folds and marionette lines.

What is Sculptra?

Sculptra is a natural collagen simulator made of Poly-L-Lactic acid (from the alphahydroxy acid family). Rather than working as a line filler like other fillers, Sculptra works by stimulating your skin to produce more collagen. Sculptra is ideal for restoring volume in those with facial hollowing and loss of fat. Results are long-lasting (up to 2 years) and natural-looking.

What is Liquid Lift?

Liquid Lift is a term to describe the effects when Fillers are used in a strategic way to create the effect of a mini-facelift. This technique aims to give a natural and fresh rejuvenation effect without prolonged recovery time or tell-tale signs of having work done.

How long do fillers last?

In general, Restylane and Juvederm (Hyaluronic acid) last 6- 9 months, Radiesse (Calcium Hydroxylapatite) lasts 12 months or more and Sculptra (Poly-L-Lactic Acid) lasts 2 years. How long the filler lasts depends on the area treated, your skin, and the injection technique. In some cases duration of the effects can be shorter or longer.

What can I expect during and after a filler treatment?

A topical anaesthetic cream is first applied to the treated area for 30-45 minutes to minimize discomfort. If we are treating around your lip area, you will be given an additional anaesthetic block (similar to being at the dentist) just before the treatment. Expect to feel numb for 1-2 hours after the block.
There is a small amount of tolerable discomfort during the procedure. Treatments take 20 minutes on average, depending on the number of treated areas.
There may be swelling and redness over the treated area immediately after the treatment. This usually subsides within a few minutes to few hours. Makeup may be applied immediately after the treatment. Most patients are able to resume normal activities on the same day or by the next day. (Note that strenuous exercise should be avoided for 48 hours after treatment)
Results are immediate (with the exception of Sculptra which takes a month to see full effects), however it may take a few days to settle into its natural shape. A small amount of swelling or puffiness for 1-2 days is normal.

What are the possible side effects of fillers?

Common injection-related reactions may occur, such as swelling, redness and tenderness at the injection site. These typically resolve spontaneously within 2 to 10 days. Mild bruising may sometimes appear at the injection site immediately following treatment and may last for 2 to 10 days. The use of anti-inflammatory drugs or aspirin may cause increased risks of bruising at the injection site.

When do I need to come back for follow-up treatments?

You are advised to return 2-4 weeks after the initial session for a review. Regular touch-up treatments every 6 months to 24 months depending on the filler type help maintain the results. You will be given an estimate on this at your initial consult.

I am interested to have filler treatments done. What do I need to do to prepare?

At your initial consult, Dr Yeoh will address your specific concerns taking into account the area being treated, your skin type and budget in order to choose the right filler and treatment regime for you.
If you are preparing to look great for an event, schedule your treatment 3-4 weeks before the event especially if you are having a filler treatment for the first time. This will give enough time for bruises to recover should they occur, as well as time for touch ups if required.

Can I do anything to prevent or reduce bruising from fillers?

To minimize bruising and bleeding, stop blood-thinning supplements and medications 5 days before injection. This includes aspirin, vitamin E, fish oil and gingko.
We routinely use homeopathic preparations like Arnica and you will be given a Gentlewaves®LED treatment immediately after the filler to help improve the skin's healing process.
