Laser B.B

B.B. LASER

What is it?

The B.B. Laser is a recent laser treatment that quickly and effectively targets superficial facial pigment and improves pores. It’s named after the ever-popular BB cream, a favorite of makeup users around the globe for its ability to provide the look of flawless, poreless skin without a heavy, caked-on appearance. The results of the laser replicate the look of BB cream – lightened pigmentation, reduced fine lines and pores, improved hydration – without any makeup required.

How does it work?

The laser’s wavelength penetrates the lower part of the epidermis where it is able to target freckles, sunspots, age spots and melasma while renewing damaged skin and stimulating collagen production. The wavelength penetrates the upper dermis while not causing the upper layer to peel.

Is the B.B. Laser right for me?

It’s safe for all skin tones as well as sensitive skin. It’s recommended for people that want to:

  • Lighten or eliminate superficial pigmentation and acne scars
  • Reduce fine lines and pore size
  • Treat acne and inflamed skin
  • Incur minimal downtime
  • Avoid multiple treatments

How is the B.B. Laser different from other lasers?

It’s more intensive than Revlite® and Dual Yellow lasers (used in Laser Circuit) and doesn’t require as many treatments. While the Revlite & Dual Yellow lasers are good at targeting the deeper pigments, the BB laser is better for superficial pigments & pore refining. For most people, just one BB laser session is enough to achieve desired results. And unlike the Pearl Laser and other laser peels, the outer layers of the skin remain intact, so downtime is considerably shortened.

How much downtime is involved?

Downtime with the B.B. Laser ranges from zero to five days, depending on your skin condition and the results you desire to achieve. The laser comes in three strengths:

Laser Strength

Desired Goal

Downtime

1

Hydration & stabilization of dry or irritated skin

None

2

Skin rejuvenation of normal skin

Mild - 1 to 3 days

3

Removal of resistant skin pigments

Minimal - 3 to 5 days

The downtime is “social” downtime, meaning you can keep up with work and social engagements as usual, though it is recommended to avoid photography sessions and other special events during this time.

What happens during the treatment?

A topical anesthesia cream is applied, and the skin is thoroughly cleansed. Laser-protective goggles are placed over the eyes. The doctor passes the laser, a wand-like device, over the areas to be treated (the device itself never touches you). The laser emits a beam of light that targets the damaged skin in a specific and controlled manner. Cold air is simultaneously blown onto the treated area to minimize any discomfort.

How long does each treatment last?

The treatment takes about 60 to 80 minutes, of which 20 minutes is time spent waiting for the anesthesia to penetrate. The laser portion is completed in about 10 minutes. After the treatment, a Gentlewaves®LED treatment is provided along with recovery creams and masks (depending on your skin condition) to help the healing process.

Is it painful?

The topical anesthesia cream makes this treatment very tolerable. Even without the cream, the treatment is still well tolerated by many patients, though it stings a bit more. The laser feels like a series of little pricks on the skin. After the treatment, most people feel like they have a sunburn, which usually subsides 1 to 4 hours later.

What can I expect after a treatment?

Immediately after the treatment, your skin will be pink and flushed. Superficial skin pigmentation darkens, forming tiny coffee grind-like spots that heal and fall off a few days later. A very thin, barely noticeable skin-colored veneer develops over the treated area, which naturally sloughs off a few days later, too. Makeup can be applied the day after the treatment. Many clients carry on with normal daily activities the day after the treatment, though you should avoid exfoliating skincare, direct sun exposure, swimming and strenuous exercise for one week.

How many treatments are recommended?

Generally just one B.B. Laser treatment gives visibly significant results for skin rejuvenation, freckles and pore reduction. A series of treatments may be required for melasma and acne scarring.

How soon will I see results?

Results can be seen within a week and continue to improve after two to three weeks.

Can the B.B. Laser be part of a combination therapy?

Yes, patients may choose to combine this treatment with other procedures such as Laser Circuit, fillers or Botox®. Our doctors are happy to discuss combination therapies with you during your initial consultation.

How should I take care of my skin after a B.B. Laser treatment?

Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen (designed for the face) of at least SPF 30 every day. For moderate to intense laser treatments, we will also send you home with therapeutic masks to promote the healing process. These are to be applied twice daily for five days.

How do I prepare my skin for a B.B. laser treatment?

Avoid sun exposure for at least two weeks before the treatment. Also, do not use Retin A or other irritating skin products for three days prior to the treatment.
