IYAC sub-05

The Injectable Glow

Profhilo is an injectable moisturizing treatment that makes the skin look soft, more glowing and youthful, with a firmer cheek, and a smoother neck and chest.

It has been a year since we’ve introduced Profhilo to IYAC. How has the response been?

Is it safe and effective? Is it still as popular as it’s touted to be?

Profhilo - pronounced “Pro- Filo’’ - contains 2 types (high and low molecular weight) of non-cross linked (read: pure with no preservatives) Hyaluronic acid (HA). The high molecular weight HA helps with firming, and the low molecular weight HA helps with hydration.

Unique injection technology

Once injected, it slowly spreads to stimulate your skin to produce its own collagen to reinforce support structures – a process known as Bioremodelling. This provides a lifting effect, and reduces skin sagging, making it an effective treatment for firming the skin.

Its Niche

Profhilo’s positioning in the injectable market is that it is not a filler (it doesn’t fill anything), but it is good for 2 things – hydration and firming. It is also a safe treatment with minimal risks.

What is it?

  • Profhilo is a treatment using tiny superficial injections of Hyaluronic Acid, to plump & hydrate skin, stimulate collagen & elastin production. It helps to improve skin texture. Patients often notice tighter pores and smoother skin.

What are the benefits?

  • Profhilo improves your skin quality. Skin looks and feels firmer with a nice glow. As aging makes our skin dry and sagging, Profhilo helps to delay the effects of aging on our skin.

Why is it popular?

  • There are only 10 injections for each treatment.
  • It is quick, safe and there’s minimal healing time required.

How has the response been at IYAC?

Our Profhilo patients love that results are subtle and natural-looking – skin looks more hydrated and vibrant.

We recommend Profhilo for these concerns:

  • Smoothening crepy smile lines on the cheek
  • Smoothening acne scars on the face
  • Firming crepy skin on the neck
  • Transforming tired, aged skin to vibrant and youthful

Profhilo appeals to those who:

  • want to ‘look fresher & glow more’
  • may not be keen on traditional Fillers, or don’t want to look filled.

We also use Profhilo in other body parts:

  • to firm the hands
  • hydrate and smoothen wrinkles on the chest
  • to tighten crepy skin at the upper arms
  • to tighten saggy abdominal skin
  • to firm wrinkly knees

Profhilo is best suited for:

  • Those who like the natural & fresh look
  • Dry skin types
  • Crepy skin or fine lines
  • Aging neck e.g. crepy skin over centre neck
  • Eczema prone skin
  • Middle aged skin (40-60 years old) with dry, thin skin

1. Is Profhilo or Fillers better for firming the cheek area?

The firming results for Profhilo are milder and more gentle than the lifting results of Fillers (e.g. Sculptra/Ellanse/Radiesse which are stronger collagen stimulators.)

Profhilo is usually recommended for those who prefer a subtle, natural look.

2. What’s the difference between Profhilo, Skinboosters and Rejuran?

These 3 treatments are grouped as superficial injections, as their injection depth is much more superficial compared to traditional fillers. Superficial injections are safe, low-risk treatments that also give very natural-looking results.

Profhilo, Skinboosters and Rejuran are similar in some ways  – e.g. they all improve skin quality - but each has its own niche. Depending on your skin concern and treatment goals, our doctors will determine the best treatment for you.

3. How would you use Profhilo vs. Skinboosters vs. Rejuran?

A rough guide:

Often, a combination of treatments may be used for the most optimal results.

E.g. Profhilo may be used to anti-age the cheeks and neck, whilst Skinboosters are used to smoothen the forehead lines in the same patient.

Each person has a unique face with different concerns and it is best to consult one of our doctors to determine the treatment that will give you the finest result.

4. What’s the treatment protocol for Profhilo?

For those doing injectable treatments for the first time, we recommend the standard protocol for optimal results:

  • 2 sessions, spaced 1 month apart, followed by maintenance sessions every 4-6 months.

For those who have previously used skinboosters and are now maintaining with Profhilo, we recommend the maintenance protocol:

  • Once every 4-6 months.

5. How long does treatment last?

4-6 months.

6. What can I expect during and after the procedure?

First, topical numbing cream is applied to the treated area. Each syringe containing 2ml of Profhilo needs only 10 injection points to the treated area and takes 10-15 minutes. The treatment ends with Bellalux LED treatment to speed up the healing process of the needle marks. Expect mild skin bumps from Profhilo which resolve over 1-2 days. Please refrain from heavy exercise during these 2 days for optimal healing.

7. Can Profhilo be combined with other treatments?

Absolutely. We often combine Profhilo with Botox, Fillers, Ultherapy or HIFU for more visible results. Profhilo works synergistically with these treatments and can be combined safely together. In fact, the combination of Profhilo and Botox has shown to be very satisfactory in certain conditions e.g. moderate to severe neck sagging.

8. How is it combined?

With Fillers, Ultherapy or HIFU :

  • Profhilo may be done 1 month after any injection (Filler, Skinbooster, Rejuran) or energy device (Ultherapy, HIFU, Laser).

With Botox :

  • Profhilo and Botox may be done together at the same session.
