IYAC sub-05

What is it?
A peel is the controlled application of a solution to remove old, damaged skin to reveal new skin within. IYAC uses a bio-stimulating revitalizing peel from Italy to keratolytically remove the outermost skin layer. Peels counter the effects of skin aging and oxidative damage caused by UV radiation and pollution, while promoting hydration and new cell turnover.

Is a chemical peel right for me?
Our body peels can be used on the hands, back, neck and décolletage to:

  • Soften and remove old, dull skin
  • Improve the appearance of wrinkles and scarred skin
  • Kill acne bacteria to settle current outbreaks and prevent new comedones from forming
  • Reduce age spots, freckles and dark patches caused by hormones (melasma)
  • Decrease pore size
  • Revitalize cells to produce collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid
  • Provide a healthy, vibrant glow to skin that is dull in texture and color

What can I expect during the treatment?
The skin is thoroughly cleansed to remove excess oil. Two layers of peeling solution are applied for about 2 to 10 minutes, then neutralized with a soothing cream. During the procedure, most patients experience a warm to hot sensation with a mild stinging sensation that lasts less than 10 minutes. A healing and soothing cream is prescribed for 7 days.

Does a chemical peel have any side effects?
Peeling, redness, and scaling can result but fade within 3 to 7 days, similar to a sunburn. For deeper peels, mild flaking of the skin begins 3 days later and continues to peel for a few days thereafter.

How do I prepare for a body peel?
Prior to the peel, you should stop taking certain drugs and using topical skin medications such as Retin-A, Renova and glycolic acid. It is important to inform your therapist of any past history of unusual scarring tendencies (such as keloid scarring) and recurring cold sores.

How long is the recovery period after a chemical peel?
The recovery time depends on the type of peel administered.

Light peels require virtually no recovery time. Though the skin may be mildly irritated, patients can return to their daily activities immediately after the treatment.

Medium peels cause your skin to slough off. The skin fully heals about two weeks later.

How should I take care of my skin after a body peel?
The new skin that emerges following a peel is temporarily more sensitive to the sun. It is important to avoid direct sun exposure since the new skin is fragile and more susceptible to sun damage. You should apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen every day after a peel.

How often should I receive treatments?

Mild peels may be repeated at 1 to 4 week intervals until the desired effect is achieved. Deeper peels may be repeated every 6 to 12 months.
