Excessive Sweat Treatment for Hyperhidrosis

What is Hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition where one sweats excessively in situations unrelated to temperature and weather. It commonly affects the underarm area and often causes anxiety and stress, especially if clothing gets regularly soiled or sweat drips down the body.

Satisfied patients who have been treated with Botox for underarm hyperhidrosis describe the result as life changing, and their self-confidence greatly increases once the excessive sweating is under control.

How does Botox reduce excessive sweating?

Botox temporarily blocks chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands, thereby reducing sweating in the injected area. Botox is generally very effective – a 90% reduction in sweating is achieved by most patients after one treatment. Body odor generally improves as a direct result of the reduced sweating, however this is not always the case.

What happens during a Botox treatment for hyperhidrosis?

Anaesthetic cream is applied, and tiny injections of Botox using a very fine needle are administered in a gentle, systematic manner. The treatment takes about 10 minutes. Most patients feel a series of quick stings but discomfort is minimal and brief.

How long do results last?

The dryness lasts about six months or more, at which point the treatment can be repeated.

Is Botox a safe treatment for hyperhidrosis?

Side effects are rare. In addition, there is minimal downtime, and normal daily activities can be resumed the next day.

Who is a good candidate for Botox treatments for hyperhidrosis?

Anyone with excessive sweating who has not responded to other treatment options, such as clinical antiperspirants, is a good candidate for Botox.
