IYAC sub-05

Some fillers rely on the filler itself to fill restore lost volume (think gel-like hyaluronic acid fillers like Restalyne). Others work by stimulating your body to generate its own collagen.

Why are collagen stimulating fillers popular?

Many clients like these fillers because they naturally tighten the skin by causing your body to produce its own collagen. Also, collagen stimulating fillers last longer than other types of fillers. Lastly, these fillers come in two variatives: those who prefer same-day results and those who prefer results to gradually develop to minimize signs of having undergone a treatment.

Which collagen stimulating fillers does IYAC offer?

IYAC offers two kinds.

1) Sculptra is an FDA-approved filler containing poly-L-lactic acid. It is a liquid (not a gel) so you do not see same-day results. Rather results start to appear about a month after your initial treatment as this is when your own collagen starts to naturally tighten your skin. The effect is gradual and natural looking, which some clients prefer since there are no sudden changes indicative of having undergone a treatment. Most people need several sessions to achieve their desired look. Results from three sessions, scheduled one month apart, can last up to two years.

2) Ellansé is an HSA-approved filler that provides same-day results and usually requires only one session. Unlike Sculptra, it is a gel so once injected it fills in lost volume. Over the course of three months, the filler metabolizes from the body while stimulating the skin to produce more collagen to maintain the volumized look. One session of Ellansé is priced higher than Sculptra but most people need only one session for results that are long-lasting (up to two years). Depending on the skin condition and degree of laxity, one session consists of anything from 1 to 5 syringes.

Which areas can be treated?

Sculptra and Ellansé are versatile and can treat:
- temples and forehead
- cheeks
- nasolabial folds and marionette lines
- jawline and chin
- certain parts of the body, such as neck, upper arms and knees

What are the side effects?

Like all injectables, common side effects include bruising, skin redness and swelling. These are temporary and resolve within days (though bruising can last longer). For more on side effects, how to prepare for a treatment and what to expect afterwards, visit our main Fillers here.

Are collagen stimulating fillers safe?

Sculptra was introduced to the medical market in 2004. Ellansé has been safely used since 2009 and is currently available in more than 70 countries. Sculptra is US FDA-approved and Ellanse has been approved by multiple regulatory authorities, including Singapore’s HSA. Prior to cosmetic use, both fillers have long been used to make biocompatible medical products like dissolvable surgical sutures and implantable devices.
