IPL and Laser (Laser Circuit)

What is it?

BB Intense is similar to the BB Laser but with a stronger setting which allows for deeper penetration of the epidermis. It targets deep-seated, stubborn pigmentation, and acne scarring. It’s named after the ever-popular BB cream, a favorite of makeup users around the globe for its ability to provide the appearance of flawless, poreless skin. The results of the laser replicate the look of BB cream – hydrated skin with reduced pigmentations and softened fine lines  – but without any makeup required.

How does it work?

The laser’s wavelength penetrates the lower part of the epidermis where it targets freckles, sunspots, age spots and melasma while renewing damaged skin and stimulating collagen production. The beauty of the laser – and what differentiates it from the rest - is that it can penetrate the upper dermis while causing minimal disruption to the outermost layer.

Is BB Intense right for me?

It’s safe for all skin tones. BB Intense is recommended for people with:

  • Old, deep and/or stubborn skin pigmentation and acne scars
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Visible pores

How is BB Intense different from other lasers?

It’s stronger than Revlite® and Dual Yellow lasers (two of the lasers used in Laser Circuit) and doesn’t require as many treatments. It penetrates deeper than the BB Laser, which is why there is a short amount of downtime with BB Intense.

How much downtime is involved?

Downtime with BB Intense ranges from five to seven days, depending on your skin condition and the results you desire to achieve. The downtime is “social” downtime, meaning you can go to work and social engagements as usual, though it’s best to avoid photography sessions and other special events during this time.

What happens during the treatment?

A topical anesthesia cream is applied, and the skin is thoroughly cleansed. Laser-protective goggles are placed over the eyes. The doctor passes the wand-like laser over the areas to be treated (the device itself never touches you). The laser emits a beam of light that targets the damaged skin in a specific and controlled manner. Cold air is simultaneously blown onto the treated area to minimize discomfort.

How long does the treatment last?

The treatment takes about 60 to 80 minutes, of which 20 minutes is time spent waiting for the anesthesia to penetrate. The laser portion is completed in about ten minutes, followed by a therapeutic mask to cool and heal the skin. After the treatment, an LED treatment is provided along with post recovery creams to help the healing process.

Is it painful?

The topical anesthesia cream makes this treatment very tolerable. The laser feels like a series of little pricks on the skin.

What can I expect after a treatment?

Immediately after the treatment, your skin will be pink and flushed. The treated area will likely feel dry and sensitive, similar to sunburn, for a few hours. Superficial skin pigmentation darkens, forming tiny coffee grind-like spots that fall off a few days later. A thin, barely noticeable veneer forms and sloughs off several days later to reveal fresh skin underneath. Makeup can be applied the next day after the treatment. Many clients carry on with normal daily activities the day after the treatment, though you should avoid exfoliating skincare, direct sun exposure, swimming and strenuous exercise for one week.

How many treatments are recommended?

Generally just one BB Intense session gives visibly significant results for skin rejuvenation, freckles and pore reduction. More than one treatment may be required for melasma and acne scarring.

How soon will I see results?

Results can be seen within a week and continue to improve after two to three weeks.

Can BB Intense be part of a combination therapy?

Yes, patients may choose to combine this treatment with other procedures such as Laser Circuit, fillers or Botox®. Our doctors are happy to discuss combination therapies with you during your consultation and at any time during subsequent appointments.

Who should avoid this treatment?

Dehydrated skin and those who are constantly exposed to the sun should avoid this treatment.

How should I take care of my skin after a BB Intense treatment?

We will supply you with post recovery creams to promote the healing process. These are to be applied twice daily for five days. Thereafter, always remember to apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen (designed for the face) of at least SPF 30 every day.

How do I prepare my skin for a BB Intense treatment?

Avoid sun exposure for at least two weeks before the treatment. Also, do not use Retin-A or other irritating skin products for three days prior to the treatment.
