Pearl is a safe "Laser Peel" that removes a layer of old damaged skin revealing smooth, even-toned skin with a pearly sheen.

What is a Laser Peel?

A laser peel, also known as laser skin resurfacing, is a popular cosmetic procedure that rejuvenates the skin by removing the top layers of the skin through focused laser light energy. Newer, younger skin replaces the older, dead outer layers, bringing out a clearer and tighter complexion that is more even in tone, texture and color.

What is the Pearl™ Laser?

The Pearl™ laser combines the impact of resurfacing lasers with the gentleness and safety of non-invasive procedures to treat aging and sun-damaged skin. Pearl™ reduces wrinkles, uneven texture and solar damage with fewer treatments and less overall recovery than other technologies to provide a healthy, pearl-like glow. Pearl™ received FDA clearance in USA in March 2007 for the treatment of wrinkles.

How does the Pearl™ Laser work?

During the procedure, the top layer of skin is treated with pulses of light in a pre-selected pattern. The laser simultaneously sends heat to the deeper layers of skin to provide longer-term benefits. A natural protective dressing forms on the skin to minimize downtime during the restorative process. On day 3 or 4, this natural dressing will peel or slough off, leaving new, healthy, vibrant skin underneath. In a short time, patients will notice overall skin clarity, smoothness and softness - all from a 20 minute treatment with only 4-5 days of "social" downtime.

What is "social" downtime?

Downtime is the time spent recovering from a procedure. With "social" downtime, you can continue your normal daily activities. However, you may not wish to attend important social events because your face will appear pink/red for 3 – 4 days.

Is the Pearl™ Laser right for me?

The attractive thing about Pearl™ is its ability to give a fresh, pearl-like quality to the skin that you do not see with IPL or other lasers. Pearl™ also fills a growing demand for patients who wish to treat pigmentation, fine lines and smoothen skin all at the same time, with great and fast results.

A candidate for the Pearl™ Laser is someone who is seeking to:

  • correct fine lines and wrinkles
  • improve skin texture and pore size
  • reduce sun-induced discolouration and pigmentation
  • diminish acne scars and signs of aging

Patients with light to medium skin tones and mild to moderate sun damage are the ideal candidates.

What areas will respond to a Pearl™ treatment?

Pearl™ will smooth the skin's texture, as well as soften fine lines and wrinkles, on the face, neck, upper chest and hands.

What happens during the treatment?

  • Topical anesthesia is applied. A waiting period is usually required before beginning the actual procedure, to allow time for the anesthetic to work.
  • The skin and surrounding areas are prepared. The skin is thoroughly cleansed, and laser-protective goggles are placed over the eyes.
  • Laser procedure is performed. The laser, a wand-like device, is passed over the areas to be treated, and the laser emits a beam of light which vaporizes the top layers of damaged skin in a specific and controlled manner. As the laser peel is performed, a popping sound is heard, but no pain is felt. Cold air is blown onto the treated area to minimize any discomfort.
  • Cooling preparation is applied. A cooling preparation is applied to the skin to reduce swelling and discomfort.
  • Protective skin barriers are applied. A protective barrier is applied to the skin. This usually consists only of a healing ointment and sunscreen.

How long does each Pearl™ treatment last?

Each treatment session is about 60 minutes. This includes 20 minutes of laser treatment and a Gentlewaves®LED treatment immediately after to improve the skin's healing process.

How does a Pearl™ treatment feel?

The Pearl™ treatment feels like a series of brief pinches. On a scale of 1-10, with 10 representing pain, most patients report the treatment feeling like a 2 or 3.

What can I expect after a Pearl™ treatment?

Results are noticeable by day 3 or 4 when the superficial tissue has peeled off, leaving fresh, new, healthy skin underneath. Make-up may be applied at this time.

Are there any restrictions on my activity after a Pearl™ treatment?

After treatment, the skin will look and feel mildly sunburned. You will apply ointment on the skin for 3 – 4 days. Since you cannot wear sunscreen during this time, you will need to wear protective clothing and limit sun exposure for a few days after the treatment.

How many treatments are recommended?

Some patients may require two treatments spaced approximately one month apart to achieve the desired results. Other patients may need only one treatment.

Can Pearl™ be part of a combination therapy treatment?

Yes, patients may choose to have a Pearl™ treatment combined with other procedures such as laser skin rejuvenation, as well as fillers or Botox®. Dr Yeoh will be pleased to discuss combination therapies with you.

How does Pearl™ compare to other laser treatments in its category?

Pearl™ offers the most effective treatment to address fine lines, uneven texture and discoloration without wound care and the lengthy downtime required with certain Erbium and CO2 laser procedures. Compared to today's fractionated technologies, Pearl offers noticeable results in just one treatment versus 4 – 6 fractionated treatments.

How Should I Take Care of My Skin After Pearl™ treatment?

Daily sunscreen application is necessary after healing to protect the new skin. A sunscreen specifically formulated for use on the face should be chosen, with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15. Liberal moisturizer application is also recommended after healing.

How do I prepare my skin for a Pearl™ treatment?

Avoid sun exposure for at least two weeks before the treatment. Avoid the use of Retin A or other irritating skin products for three days prior to the treatment.

Between S$1,500 - S$2,200 for a single session. All proces are subject to 7% GST.
