Skin Longevity: Taking Care of Your Skin for the Long Run Learn more
You know that old saying: you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone?
We always think of this statement when we explain to patients how collagen works. When you were 20 years old, how much time did you spend thinking about how supple and smooth collagen made your skin feel? Never, of course! It’s only when your collagen starts to decrease that we stand up and ask: what is going on here? Our skin becomes drier, our facial contouring isn’t as plump, even the skin on our hands and neck start to become thin and a bit withered.
The common denominator here is collagen. And we start to lose it in our early 30s. That’s why this is a good time to start thinking about collagen rebuilding.

Collagen Banking includes several treatments that stimulate new collagen growth. These include:
1. Collagen-Stimulating Injectables

Certain injectables can bio-stimuate, tightening skin and filling in contours by stimulating your body to produce more collagen. Many patients like these injectables as they are metabolised away and rely on their bodies to naturally tighten the skin. Collagen-stimulating injectables include:
1. Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA) or Poly-D-L-Lactic Acid (PDLLA). These are liquids (not gels), so you do not see same-day results, but rather, results start to appear about a month after your initial treatment. The effect is gradual and natural looking, which some clients prefer since there are no sudden changes indicative of having undergone treatments. Most people need several sessions to achieve their desired look. Results from three sessions, scheduled 1 month apart, can last up to 2 years.
2. Filler- Calcium Hydroxylapatite. Unlike poly-L-lactic acid, this filler is a gel, so once injected, it fills in lost volume. Results are immediate and require no post-treatment facial massaging.
Depending on the skin condition and degree of laxity, one session consists of 1 to 2 syringes.
Collagen stimulating injectables are versatile. They can treat the temples, cheeks, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, jawline and chin, as well as certain parts of the body, such as the neck, upper arms and knees.
2. Ultrasound Energy

Both Microfocused Ultrasound with Visualisation (MFU-V) and High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) stimulate collagen production by penetrating deeper skin layers with heat energy. Ultrasound energy can lift and tone loose skin as well as soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Ultrasound can treat the eyebrows, cheeks, lower jaw/jowls, chin, neck and décolletage.
