How does the Copper Bromide Laser work?
The yellow light from this gentle laser destroys acne bacteria thereby eradicating active acne, at the same time promoting collagen growth, reducing redness and improving sensitive skin. Improvements are gradual for clear and youthful skin
Is the Copper Bromide Laser right for me?
The copper bromide laser is a treatment for those who have:
– Acne (mild to moderate acne that has not responded well to topical creams or oral medication)
– Melasma (a type of pigment that is caused partly by sun, genetic predisposition, and hormonal changes)
– Redness-prone skin, such as rosacea
– Sensitive skin
Is it safe? What are the possible side effects?
The copper bromide laser is very safe because the laser does not injure the outermost layer of the skin. Side effects are minimal and may include redness and mild swelling. Most of these will disappear within hours of the treatment.
What happens during a treatment?
The skin is thoroughly cleansed, and laser-protective goggles are placed over the eyes. A topical anaesthesia can be used if the patient so desires. A yellow laser beam is directed at the face, which destroys the Propionibacterium acne bacteria and shrinks the sebaceous gland to reduce the production of sebum. The yellow light also promotes collagen growth and reduces small red blood vessels (facial capillaries). This has an overall tightening, firming and rejuvenating effect on skin.
How long does each treatment session last?
Each treatment session is about 45 minutes. This includes ultrasound cleansing followed by gentle extractions, 15 minutes of laser treatment, followed by an LED light treatment immediately after to improve the skin’s healing process.
Is it painful?
Most patients compare the feel of the laser to a tingling or prickling sensation like pins and needles. Generally, the copper bromide laser is very well tolerated without anaesthesia, even in those with very low pain thresholds. However, a topical anaesthesia may be used for patients that request it.
What can I expect after a treatment?
After a laser session, the affected area might appear pink for up to an hour, but since there is no wound or injury to the skin, makeup can be applied straight away. Patients can immediately resume their regular daily activities since there is no healing time required.
Who is not suitable for Copper Bromide Laser?
Although the copper bromide laser treatments can be used effectively on darker skin, individuals with darker skin tones should be assessed for suitability beforehand.
How do I prepare my skin for laser treatments?
Avoid sun exposure for at least two weeks before the treatment. Avoid the use of isotretinoin/ retinols or other irritating skin products for three days prior to the treatment.
How fast will I see the results, and how many treatments will I need?
Improvements are gradual and become more visible after each treatment. Six treatments spaced 3 weeks apart is recommended. Thereafter, maintenance treatments can be done once every two months.
What other treatments do you recommend for acne?
Chemical Peels are a simple and effective way to achieve cleaner and clearer-looking skin. Most individuals have minimal recovery time and are able to continue their usual activities after the chemical peel. Chemical peels can be done every 3-4 months on its own, or together with the copper bromide laser treatments.
How else can I care for my skin after treatment?
Having a good skincare regime is necessary for maintaining healthy clear skin. IYAC offers a comprehensive range of skincare suitable for acne-prone skin. A gentle cleanser to reduce surface dead skin, and a good moisturiser is a must for pimples to heal and marks to fade off quickly.
Choose mineral makeup which is lightweight with coverage for red marks, does not clog pores and is good for your skin.
A healthy digestive system is key to well-being. Most acne-prone individuals benefit from minimising sugar, dairy and wheat in their daily diet, and taking a probiotic supplement to promote great skin from within.
