In 2022, alopecia (hair loss) made headlines because of the “Oscar slap” that resounded around the world and Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head was revealed to be less of a coiffure choice than an unwelcome medical condition.
Hair loss, premature or otherwise, is a common, albeit distressing condition that affects millions of people worldwide.
It can occur due to various factors:
Identifying the underlying cause is crucial in determining the appropriate treatment.
At our clinic, most cases for men in their 20s and 30s are androgenetic alopecia (AGA). Commonly referred to as male or female pattern baldness, it is the most prevalent to date. This hereditary condition typically manifests as receding hairline in men and thinning hair along the crown in women. For women, most cases are AGA and telogen effluvium (hair loss due to nutrient deficiency or post-partum hormonal changes).
While this condition is naturally distressing, it can be controlled or reduced with early intervention. The first step we recommend is to see a medical doctor for a proper diagnosis in order to get appropriate care, medication or supplements, whichever is required.
The good news: beyond the hair typical hair tonics and shampoos, hair restoration methods have advanced significantly in recent years, offering hope to those affected by hair loss.
1) FDA- approved for AGA will be Hair Loss, an FDA-approved AGA treatment. A super serum created from the patient’s own scalp, full of growth factors and progenitor cells to signal to the less healthy side for repair and regrowth.
2) Microneedling, a minimally invasive dermatological procedure in which fine needles are rolled over the skin (the scalp, in this case) to puncture the outermost layer of the epidermis. This therapy is used to induce collagen formation and growth factor production of treated areas. It has been used in a wide range of dermatologic conditions, including androgenetic alopecia (AGA) and alopecia areata, among others. (Source: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29194786/ )
3) Exosome therapy, another form of regenerative medicine for hair growth, is another non-invasive solution. Exosomes are naturally occurring messengers, containing proteins, amino acids, peptides, lipids, growth factors and genetic material. They prompt the natural healing and regeneration of our skin cells, resulting in rejuvenation of the scalp.
IYAC’s Hair Growth Program combines scalp diagnostics, Regenera Activa and non-invasive scalp treatments to optimise the scalp’s health.
This hair journey is suitable for those experiencing mild to moderate hair loss related to ageing hormones and/or stress, but it does not replace hair transplant surgery, which usually treats severe hair loss.
The earlier one starts treatment, the better the results.
The treatments don’t replace hair transplant surgery that’s used to treat severe hair loss and advance any receding hairlines. In contrast to traditional hair transplants, the downtime from our Hair Growth Program is close to none.
