Mastering the 4 Rs of Facial Rejuvenation

Mastering the 4 Rs of Facial Rejuvenation

May 14, 2022

We are all too familiar with the Rs for a green environment: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

But do we know the 4 Rs for graceful ageing?

Re-texturise – the skin
Relax – the muscles
Re-position – the fat pads
Re-volumise the bone loss

Each layer of our face ages differently, requiring its unique rejuvenation approach. At IYAC, we help you address the Rs you need for ageing naturally and gracefully.

1. Skin

In the skin, as we lose collagen and hyaluronic acid with time, the skin gets thinner and less elastic; pores become bigger. Chronic sun exposure (including previous years of not using sunscreen) also leads to age spots or photodamage.

Treatments to retexturise the skin include collagen-stimulating lasers, such as:

pico laser

Treats deep-seated pigmentation and evens out skin tone. With minimal downtime (overnight facial redness), this treatment gives cumulative positive changes to the skin.

Thulium 1927nm Laser

Like a laser-peel, the Thulium laser freshens the skin, refining pores and fine lines.

2. Muscles

Our facial muscles build up tension with the years (especially in a digital era with increased screen time), pulling on the skin to create lines and wrinkles from our 30s, and eventually setting deep creases. Repeated teeth grinding also bulks up the jaws, resulting in tension and aches in the lower face.

Relax the tension in the face with:

Botulinum Toxin

A purified protein to soften the appearance of forehead lines, crow’s feet, and frown lines or relax the jaw muscles for reduced teeth grinding.

No downtime; repeat in 4 to 6 months or as when needed.

3. Fat Pads
Our facial fat is located in specific pockets, known as fat pads. With age, the fat pads lose volume and sag, resulting in the midface losing its structure and fullness, while the lower face looks heavy, like a deflated and inverted ‘V’. With the loss of fullness, the skin also hangs loose.

Reposition these fat pads with:

Microfocused Ultrasound Skin Tightening with Visualisation (MFUV) or High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound Skin Lifting (HIFU)

Focused ultrasound energies of MFU-V* or HIFU heat and tighten connective tissue around the fat pads and stimulate collagen in the deep and superficial layers of the skin to restore support for a natural uplift.

No downtime; repeat annually.

Botulinum toxin for Facelift

IYAC’s technique places tiny amounts of diluted botulinum toxin into the skin along the outline of the face to lift the face tangentially for a fresh and neat look.

No downtime; repeat every 4 to 6 months.

4. Bone
As we age, we lose bone mass. Combined with changes in the supporting ligaments and fat pads, the areas around the eyes, cheeks and temples then hollow out, with a corresponding skin sag, more visible in our 40s.

Treatments to Revolumise are:

Hyaluronic Acid Fillers

Hyaluronic acid, which is naturally present in the skin, is placed strategically within the supporting tissues to restore support.

Same-day results, minimal downtime; repeat in 6-12 months.

Collagen-Stimulating Injectables

Collagen-stimulating injectables tighten skin and smoothen contours by stimulating collagen production. Patients like how the fillers are broken down and metabolised – the body is doing the work naturally.

Depending on the type of injectable chosen, it may require a single or several sessions to achieve the desired look, with results lasting 1 to 2 years.
