What happens to the eye area as we age?
Many factors affect the look of our eyes, such as:
– Sleep deprivation
– Allergies
– Stress
– Age
To some extent, we can control our sleep, stress and allergen exposure, but we cannot stop the ageing process. As we get older, two things happen that cause the shape of our eyes to change. First, muscles in the eye area weaken, causing the overlying skin to become lax. Second, fat that surrounds and supports the eye area diminishes and starts to shift downward, eventually collecting in unsightly “bags” over and under the eyes. The loss of fat typically causes dark circles to appear, and eyelids and under eyes appear swollen, puffy and heavy. The result is a permanent tired look, even when you are fully rested.
How does Microneedling Radiofrequency work?
Microneedling Radiofrequency is a device that uses micro-insulated needles to deliver radiofrequency heat into the skin around the eye to a depth of up to 1.5 millimeters. The heat shrinks subcutaneous fat deposits that have built up around the eyes. The fat is melted away by the heat, and then metabolised by the body. Microneedling Radiofrequency also heats the dermis to stimulate collagen production, thus providing a tightening effect to the overlying skin. This heat also penetrates the epidermis (or outermost layer of the skin) to improve the skin’s elasticity and smooth out fine lines.
Can it replace a surgical eye lift?
Microneedling Radiofrequency is not intended to replace a surgical eye lift but is a reliable option for those seeking a safe non-surgical solution for puffy, loose skin around the eyes.
How do I know if Microneedling Radiofrequency is the right treatment for me?
Cosmetic creams, makeup, sleep, stress reduction and reduced salt intake can help eyelid drooping and eye bags in the beginning. When these remedies stop working, Microneedling Radiofrequency is a good option to consider. The treatment is safe for all skin colours because it does not target the skin’s surface. Good candidates have mild to moderate skin laxity around the eyes. Most people typically start to develop mild skin laxity around the eyes between 30 to 40 years old, with medium skin laxity settling in between 40 to 50 years old.
What kind of results can I expect?
In terms of expectations, the results are somewhere in between Microfocused Ultrasound with Visualisation (MFU-V)/High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) ultrasound eye treatments and a surgical blepharoplasty (a cosmetic surgical procedure where excess skin is cut away from the eyelids). For a non-surgical treatment, the results of Microneedling Radiofrequency are visibly significant. Full results are visible 1 to 2 months after the end of your treatment cycle.
What happens during a treatment?
Numbing cream is applied, and then a local anesthesia is injected into the treatment area. The doctor then applies the Microneedling Radiofrequency treatment to the fatty/drooping areas of the eye, working in a linear fashion around the eye orbital. A micro-fine needle injects radiofrequency heat energy into the skin. At the end of the treatment, a cold plate is gently applied to the treatment area to facilitate healing, followed by antibiotic ointment. Typically, a Microneedling Radiofrequency session for eyelids and eyebags lasts 60 minutes.
Note: the treatment works on the skin around the eye but does not ever come into contact with the actual eyeball itself.
Is it painful?
Anesthesia is applied before the treatment making it well tolerated by most people. Approximately 80% of the treatment is painless. You feel only the pressure of the device on your skin. About 20% of the treatment feels like a succession of quick stings to the skin.
What are the side effects? Is there any downtime?
Immediately after the treatment, the area will appear slightly swollen and red prick marks will be visible on the skin. Noticeable swelling and redness subsides 1 to 3 days later, though it can take up to a week for all swelling to fully resolve. Occasionally, bruising may develop; this takes between 5 to 14 days to heal. It is best to plan for 3 to 5 days of downtime due to associated swelling and occasional bruising.
How many sessions will I need?
Depending on your skin laxity, most people will need between 3 to 5 treatments performed at one-month intervals.

S$1,635 per session. All prices include GST.
